Your first visit is incredibly important. We will spend time evaluating your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and many other things including your jaw muscles, an oral cancer screening and a cosmetic consultation if you desire one. The most important thing we do is spend some time getting to know each other and learn what your priorities and goals are.
If your dental needs are simple, or your teeth and gums are healthy we will clean your teeth that day. Occasionally for patients with complex needs, more advanced gum disease or a lot of cavities we will spend extra time doing a more thorough examination and have you return to have your teeth cleaned. The treatment is truly tailored to fit your needs and desires, while ensuring that we do not rush through the process of getting to know you.
We tell patients to anticipate being in our office for 1.5 hrs. Often we finish earlier then this for those patients who have minimal dental needs. If you have an urgent need and would prefer an appointment to focus primarily on this concern, just let us know. We will often change course and provide same day treatment for patients in this situation.
Preparing for your first appointment
The more information you complete before the appointment starts, the more time we will usually have to spend getting to know you, and evaluating your teeth. Please provide the following information.
- Request copies of any x-rays you may have from a prior dental office prior to arriving at the office. This will avoid the need for us to retake x-rays that may have been done prior.
- Bring a complete list of all medications you are taking.
- Complete the medical history and registration forms prior to arriving.
- Make sure you bring all medical benefit cards you have so that we can give you good estimates for your care.
