If you think you need a root canal and live in arvada or westminster then you’ve come to the right place. Dr Wetherington has a great deal of extra training in the area of Root canals, and provides many root canals in office without the need for outside referrals.
More importantly, however, is the fact that modern techniques have given dentists many techniques that help us avoid root canals for teeth with large cavities, plus modern root canals are not like the root canals of days past. They tend to be faster, and more comfortable with very high success rates. Because of these advances Dr Wetherington finds that he treats far fewer teeth with root canals than he used to, and more teeth get simpler, less expensive treatments.
WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL?
In a root canal we remove damaged or infected nerves (the dental pulp) that run through the roots of the teeth. This is done through a small hole in the biting surface of the tooth. The space where the nerve once was is then disinfected and sealed with an inert material. The root actually remains in the bone, and continues to support the tooth so that you can chew on it like before the procedure. This type of procedure has success rate of over 90% and can drastically improve symptoms for teeth in pain.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT?
After the treatment is completed the tooth is weakened by the small hole that is put in it, so something must be done to protect the tooth from fracture. For this reason a crown is usually indicated after a root canal. If the teeth already had the crown the hole can usually be repaired with a filling.
